David Barayev, the visionary founder and CEO of Clara Barber, is a proud first-generation native of Queens, New York and a fourth generation barber. The name Clara, derived from Hebrew, means “clear, bright light”—a symbol of inspiration and clarity that perfectly reflects David’s dream of establishing his own barbershop.

Rooted in a rich cultural heritage, David’s family hails from Tashkent, Uzbekistan—formerly part of the Soviet Union. With four generations of barbers preceding him, his journey into the craft was more than a profession; it was a legacy. It all began with his great-grandfather, a master barber whose dedication to precision and artistry set the foundation for the family trade. Both of David’s grandfathers served as his earliest mentors, imparting timeless techniques and wisdom that shaped his skills. However, it was his father who played the most pivotal role, not only teaching him the finer points of the trade but also instilling the values of discipline, craftsmanship, and passion.
